SLAC
SLAC [slak] n. the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center ---an archaic form; now officially renamed SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science laboratory that is operated by Stanford University; located on Sand Hill Road, it's the longest, straightest structure in the world, built to contain a two-mile long linear particle accelerator.
