Ruble [roob lee] n. Roble Hall dormitory, a play on the word rubble denoting that the dorm was shuttered for several years due to being deemed unsafe in the event of an earthquake. The dorm was extensively retrofit and re-opened as student housing circa Fall 1989 mere days before the Loma Prieta earthquake struck. The seismic retrofit upheld and the dorm was undamaged despite the massive quake. *note: Roble Hall was originally built as a women's dormitory. (The dorm name is actually pronounced "robe-lee," an anglicizing of the Spanish word.)
