LOCKSS
LOCKSS [loks] n. an acronym for Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe, a technical framework (modular software tools + hardware options) developed at Stanford which allows libraries to store and preserve their own collections in their own digital environments. *note: Founded by Victoria (Vicky) Reich and Dr. David S.H. Rosenthal (circa 1999), the LOCKSS program developed as a SUL auxiliary and helped usher in the digital library revolution; LOCKSS has become the standard for digital self-archiving in libraries far and wide. [The LOCKSS daemon is an open source technology used in all manner of networks --- any format transmissible by "http" is susceptible to LOCKSS applications.] See lockss.org
